Roura’s hoppers can be designed with welded-on caster shoes for mounting wheels, which help increase portability and overall usefulness. If your application requires mobility, you’ll definitely want caster wheels. The good news is that casters are very easy to install. We’ll break down the process below (or you can watch the video).

Tools You’ll Need

Just like with any installation project, you’ll want to make sure you have all of your tools readily available, including all of the hardware that came with the casters:

  • Two swivel rear casters
  • Two rigid front casters
  • Carriage bolts
  • Ratchet wrench
  • Lock nuts

1. Empty the Hopper & Clean the Surface

First, make sure your hopper is in a stable and secure area where you can easily access the bottom. If you don’t have lifting equipment, you’ll need someone to help you adjust the position of the hopper.

Once you have access to the bottom, ensure the area where the casters are mounted is clean/free of debris.

2. Slide the Caster Plate Into the Shoe

Next, slide the top plate of the caster into the lip of the caster shoe.

3. Insert the Carriage Bolt

A person slides the carriage bolt into the caster plate while it's in the shoe

Hold the caster securely in the shoe while sliding the carriage bolt into the shoe. The square neck of the carriage bolt should be in the square hole on the caster shoe.

4. Tighten the Nut on the Bolt

A person tightens the nut on the bolt with a ratchet wrench

Use your ratchet wrench to tighten the lock nut onto the carriage bolt, ensuring not to overtighten it.

5. Repeat!

Repeat the steps above with the remaining three wheels, and that’s it!

Installation/Safety Tips

  • Always use the hardware that came with the casters.
  • Always work on a flat surface to prevent shifting or tipping.
  • Wear gloves to prevent minor injuries.
  • Follow manufacturer recommendations for torque.
  • Always ensure casters are aligned correctly before tightening them. Misalignments can cause uneven rolling and increased wear.
  • Test the equipment after the installation to ensure the casters swivel freely.
