We offer five models of our hopper dumpsters. Each dump hopper model is available in several different sizes and capacities, so you can select the self dumping hoppers that best meet your handling requirements:

  • Durable hopper dumpsters support loads between 2,000 and 4,000 pounds. They’re ideal for lighter materials such as metal scrap, ash, sawdust, rubber, coal and sand.
  • Rugged series models come in load capacities from 4,000 to 8,000 pounds. The Rugged is a perfect scrap metal dumpster, but it can also handle ash, construction material, rubber, coal and glass.
  • Ultimate hoppers carry loads between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds. These models can handle heavier materials, including castings, forgings, concrete, brick, demolition debris, stone and glass.
  • Behemoth series hoppers dump their contents while on the ground. Rated between 8,000 and 10,000 pounds, they’re best for heavy contents: minerals, concrete, hot ash, construction debris, castings and shipyard materials.
  • Plastic Lid hoppers handle loads between 4,000 and 6,000 pounds. Lightweight sturdy lids with drip channels keep your contents dry and secure.

Roura provides sturdy, long-lasting, safe and cost-efficient material handling options. Our hopper dumpsters not only come in several models, but we offer a wealth of customization features.

Besides our standard models, we also offer custom solutions. Our engineers can modify an existing design or create a new hopper to meet your specifications.

A Quick Guide to the Hopper Dumpster

The hopper dumpster has revolutionized material handling. First developed by Roura, self-dumping hoppers are an invaluable tool for transporting and storing your materials. From agriculture and food production to mining and construction, clients across the country rely on our super-strong hoppers. This quick guide to our hoppers can help you select the right one for your operations. And as always, we’re happy to answer your questions and recommend pre-built or custom-designed dumpers to meet your business’s needs.

What Is a Self Dumping Hopper?

A self-dumping hopper is exactly what it sounds like: a hopper that can automatically dump its contents. Most hoppers consist of a super-strong body, a durable base and a rotating mechanism that tips the container forward. That mechanism stays locked until you manually release it, keeping both your workers and materials safe.

The great thing about self-dumping hoppers is their ability to safely dump their contents from a distance. Many models are forklift ready. And thanks to our handle release systems, you can safely dump the contents either from inside the forklift or standing on the ground.

The Strongest Hopper Dumpsters

Joseph Roura developed the first hoppers in our company’s early years. He drew from his expertise in fabricating structural steel for buildings and bridges in the Detroit area. Roura engineered these hoppers to be the strongest and most reliable in the industry. We use thicker steel than our competition: ¼-inch thick steel instead of only 3/16-inch steel typically used by manufacturers. For our heavy-duty bases, we use 5/16-inch steel instead of the standard ¼-inch. Our hopper dumpsters’ exceptional weld strength comes from our unique “innershield” hand welding process, which yields an extremely hot weld.

Advantages

When your business is required to handle potentially harmful materials like unwanted chemicals or uneaten food in bulk, using a hopper dumpster (also known as self dumping hoppers) like ours can provide many benefits. Maybe you don’t know what a hopper dumpster is, or haven’t thought about the advantages of using one in your business. Here are just a few ways one of our dumpsters can make your business better.

1. Increased Safety for Employees

Anyone in the food and beverage industry understands the massive volume of food that gets thrown out. Whether it is unused food, expired ingredients or uneaten food a guest leaves behind, it all needs to be disposed of. The waste is typically thrown into a trash hopper or garbage hopper. Those in the chemical industry deal with chemical waste on a daily basis from the manufacturing of oil, natural gas and even metals. Anytime employees are exposed to waste material, there are risks involved.

We designed our steel self dumping hoppers to minimize the amount of contact employees have with these types of waste materials. Because anything put into this type of dumpster can be transported to an appropriate location or secure receptacle and emptied without requiring contact, the amount of germs, bacteria and other harmful particles employees touch can be greatly minimized. This both reduces the risk of employee contamination as well as your liability.

2. Greater Productivity

Imagine how much more efficient your business could be if you used one of our self-dumping hoppers. Instead of having to spend time manually emptying the waste, employees could simply pull a lever and watch it all drain out. This keeps your workspace cleaner, safer and more organized. In addition, it only takes one person to operate this type of dumpster, while similar large dumpsters can require multiple people or special equipment to empty. Therefore, the time employees spend emptying waste can be drastically reduced. The less time employees spend emptying the waste, the more they can devote to other tasks. This can make your entire business more efficient and productive.

You can also use a hopper dumpster to sort or store materials instead of manually transferring everything from a production area to a separate storage bin. This can allow you to stay organized and save time simultaneously. Some models attach easily to a forklift so you don’t have to worry about lifting or moving heavy loads. Tasks that used to be time-consuming like moving waste or transporting materials for storage can be accomplished much more quickly with our self-dumping hoppers.

3. Lower Operating Costs

If your business is anything like the majority of those in the food and beverage or chemical industries, big dumpsters are a necessity. Especially if your business is larger, the cost of dumpster rental and service can represent a significant portion of your operating costs. When you purchase steel self-dumping hoppers, you will no longer have to think about paying dumpster fees for the lifetime of your business. Our hoppers have a stainless steel body and galvanized steel base, and they are built to last. Designed with wear-resistance in mind, you can choose the size dumpster that works best for your business. We not only offer a variety of sizes but also have the capability to modify or customize a hopper if you have a unique situation.

Innovative Handle Release Systems

Dumping your contents is safe and efficient with our handle release systems. Our Mechanical Hopper Release allows features a lock bolt with an adjustable pulley rail. The retractable pull handle attaches to the forklift’s overhead guard frame, which allows the operator to dump while seated inside the forklift. After the contents are dumped, the container returns to its original position. The MHR comes in both left-handed and right-handed versions.

We also offer pull-down handles to safely dump your hopper’s contents from elevated heights. These feature a sturdy cable with the handle attached to the hopper’s rear. The container stays locked into position until the operator drives to the dumping point, gets out of the forklift and pulls the release handle. After dumping, the container rotates to its original position.
